I was recently re-introduced to the concept of creating audio and video podcasts – and was surprised by the results achieved in the search engine results pages.

It seems that podcasts might be the "new hot thing" everyone is doing these days to get more content available to people and increase their exposure to their target market.

A recent audio post over at the Spiders and Milk blog reinforced my suspicion that podcasts are a largely untapped resource for those who want their content to appear in the search engines.

He also executes a very good idea in the title of his post – he tells you exactly how long the audio entry will be (60 seconds). This is a great idea for titling your podcasts and podcast submissions. Let the audience know that it's not going to take 3 hours to get to the point of your message.

In fact, follow the guidelines for making good video – keep it under 3 minutes, unless you've already conditioned your listeners to be ready for longer-form content.

I used TrafficGeyser to pull the audio track off of one my videos and then set it up to distribute that audio as a podcast. That podcast ended up ranking more quickly – and higher – than the video it was pulled from.

Podcast will definitely be part of my marketing strategies moving forward. And it will be simple to implement since I can repurpose the content I'm already creating for video.
